Parc yr Ynys and Llyn Coed y Parc
The woods and reservoir around the Afon Galedffrwd, upstream of its confluence with the Afon Ogwen, and east of Mynydd Llandygai, have long been a source of enjoyment for many people from the area. Residents in Mynydd Llandygai and vicinity in 2003 formed a charitable company called Coetir Mynydd, which took ownership of the Parc yr Ynys woodland and Llyn Coed y Parc from the Penrhyn Estate in April 2004. Amongst other activities later that year, Coetir Mynydd, with Bodfeurig School, the Forestry Commission and local sawmills, organised a Forest School in Parc y Bwlch forest.
In 2005-6, work has been concentrated, by means of a grant from the Forestry Commission through the CydCoed project, on the gradual rebuilding of the stonewall boundaries to the woodland. The work has been done by North Wales Stonework, whose web site can be found from our Links page.
On September 3rd, 2006, we were very pleased to receive a Rural Wales Award from CPRW, the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales, for our management of these woodlands. On that day, a number of members of CPRW walked through the woodlands and joined us afterwards for tea in Y Neuadd Goffa, Mynydd Llandygai. More detail and photographs can be found on the News page and in the Annual Report for 2006, to which there is a link from the Documents page.
