overpumping the dam
Vegetation control on Coed y Parc dam
July 31st, 2004

THE DAM

Over the last few years there have been increasing concerns for the management of the dam, which forms the reservoir of Llyn Coed y Parc. In 2000 the Penrhyn Estate wanted to lower the crest of the dam which would have destroyed the lake. This was opposed by the community and Gwynedd Council denied planning consent for the work. The dam was then listed by CADW as a grade 2 historical structure. We consulted with the Dinorwic engineers, and one of them is now a director. With his help and advice we are confident that we can manage the maintenance of the dam.

Saturday 31 July: Vegetation control on Coed y Parc dam
The weather was very kind and we were able to cut back and clear vegetation on the front face and crest of the dam.
